At Alestis we want to contribute to the principle of Circular Economy, moving towards a carbon-neutral, sustainable and toxic-free economy.
Before we continue telling you, you will ask yourself, what is the circular economy?
It's a model of production and consumption that involves sharing, renting, reusing, repairing, renewing and recycling existing materials and products as many times as possible to create added value. In this way, the life cycle of products is extended.
How do we collaborate at Alestis with this principle?
At Alestis Sevilla, the complete product reception-preparation-shipment flow is carried out. The material received from HMC, in sea containers and following our internal procedure, arrives in large wooden boxes.
This practice, in addition to generating a significant logistics flow, creates a large amount of waste, the management of which is a challenge for our Company.
Rubén Bayón Sayago, Manager of the Alestis Sevilla logistics warehouse, describes the process: “The boxes are dismantled and removed from the Alestis Sevilla plant. On the other hand, these remnants are used for the manufacture of spare boxes. The result is the comprehensive management of disassembly-collection and reuse of the boxes to manufacture new ones by a single Alestis collaborating company”.
With this action we put into practice the 3 “rs”: Reduce-Reuse-Recycle, a model that contrasts with the traditional linear economy based on the concept of “produce, use and throw away”.
At Alestis we transform 3696m2 of wood per year.
Monthly 8 boxes of dimensions 3x3x2 meters.
What benefits do we obtain with this practice?
1. We comply with our internal procedure SE7430 _8.6_ REDUCE-REUSE-RECYCLE. 2.Reduction of costs because we replace the workforce of dismantling boxes. 3. Cost reduction by eliminating the cost of waste removal transport. 4. Cost reduction in the amount of the box that we request to manufacture for the spare parts. We save the raw material by reusing the previous ones.
According to the European Parliament, "measures such as waste prevention, eco-design and reuse could save EU companies money while reducing total annual greenhouse gas emissions."
Practice Circular Economy. Join the change.
